Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home History

The Beginnings: 1975

Hampton Funeral Home was founded in 1975 by Troy Hampton and his wife, Edith Mills Hampton. They envisioned a compassionate and warm place for families to gather in times of need. Their dedication to providing personalized services and creating a comforting atmosphere quickly established the funeral home as a cherished part of the community

New Location: 1988

In 1988, the Hamptons relocated the funeral home to its current site, enhancing its accessibility and facilities. This move further solidified its status as a cornerstone of support for families in the area, synonymous with care and community spirit.

Transition Era: Corporate Changes

As Troy neared retirement, he sought a thoughtful succession plan and chose the corporate group Keystone to take over the funeral home. Eventually, Keystone was acquired by the Dignity Group, leading to a shift that some felt diminished the "Hometown Feel" the Hamptons had cultivated.

Challenges: Maintaining Stability

This transition created a period of uncertainty for the funeral home. However, Vickie Abner, who had dedicated her career as the Funeral Director and Office Manager, remained committed to preserving the funeral home's legacy. Her tireless work ethic was instrumental in maintaining operations and supporting the community through difficult times.

A New Chapter: 2022 and Beyond

In 2022, Troy and Edith’s dream was revitalized when Mike and Tracy Dixon purchased the Hampton Funeral Home. For Mike, this was the realization of a lifelong aspiration to own a funeral home. Unfortunately, his health began to decline, prompting him to seek a successor who could honor the home’s storied tradition.

Finding the Right Fit: Spring 2024

In the spring of 2024, Mike, Tracy, and Vickie met Roger Hutton and his partners, initiating discussions to sell the funeral home to someone who could restore its integral role within the Barbourville community.

A New Era: August 2024

The sale was finalized in August 2024, marking a new beginning for the historic establishment. Roger Hutton, a lifelong resident of Knox County, stepped in with the vision of re-establishing the beloved "Hometown Feel" and becoming a proactive member of the local community.

Community Engagement

Roger is enthusiastic about continuing the legacy of compassionate care and invites anyone in the area to stop by for a friendly chat over a cup of coffee or a bottle of water. He encourages visitors to say hello to Vickie, whose unwavering commitment to the funeral home endures.
