Mr. Will Smith age 80 of Girdler, KY, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 31, 2016. He was the son of Boone and Mary Smith, born to them on December 22, 1936 in Knox Co. On July 1, 1957, he united in marriage with Elva Smith and to this union three children were born. Will enjoyed going to church, riding horses, watching westerns and spending time with his family and friends. He had also been a Knox Co. Magistrate for nine years. He was an inspiration to many and was a long time member of the Horn Branch Baptist church.
Will was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Elva, one son Darell Gene Smith, his parents, Boone and Mary Smith, one son in law, Wendell Abner, three brothers, Jabe, Daniel and Curt Smith, his father and mother in law, Anderson and Prudie Smith, his brothers in law, Tom Jordan, Willie Branstutter, Cecil Smith, Leonard Smith, Clofis Bright, Edward Smith, Jr. and Pete Gregory, sisters in law, Laura, Margaret, Elsie, Bertha and Becky Smith, Ethel Chadwell and Lillie Mae Bright.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Betty Abner of Girdler and Elva June Saylor and husband Eddie also of Girdler, three grandchildren, Vanessa Dawn Shelton and husband Charlie of Ashland, KY, Jeremy Wyndell Abner and wife Khristie of Barbourville, KY and Jared Michael Saylor of Girdler, four great grandchildren, David, Zacharia, Hannah Jakiah and Rachael Amariah, Abner and Scarlett Grace Shelton, two brothers, J. L. Smith, and wife Maryetta and Walter and wife Kathy Smith all of Woolum, KY, four sisters, Lula Smith and husband Bert of Gray, KY, Marie Jordan of Cannon, Edna Branstutter of Barbourville and Lou Ellen “Dot” Townsley and husband Rev. Clarence Ray of Girdler, two brothers in law, Gilbert and wife Linda of Barbourville and Jerry Chadwell of Girdler, four sisters in law, Susan Gregory of Barbourville, Wilma Smith and husband Wayne of Girdler, Floretta Smith and Lovella Hampton and husband Donny all of Woolum. Will also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He also left many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Will Smith will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeremy Abner, Rev. Rick Broughton and Rev. Matthew McKinney officiating. Pallbearers will be Jared Saylor, Gary Smith, Roger Smith, Pat Mills, Tommy Mills and Billy Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Horn Branch Baptist Church, his McDonalds and horse riding buddies , the staff of the Hinkle Hometown Pharmacy, Dr. Krishna and Dr. Atienza and staff. He will be laid to rest in the Anderson Smith Cemetery at Woolum, KY Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
