Walter Smith

Mr. Walter Smith age 85 of Corbin, KY departed this life on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. He was the son of Gilbert and Lona(Hardy) Smith and was born in Knox Co. on April 16, 1924. Mr. Smith was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church. On July 9, 1942 he united in marriage with Dorothy Smith and to this union ten children were born.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Lona Smith, his wife Dorothy Smith, one daughterRebecca Riley, two sons, FC Smith and Grover Smith three sisters, Lillie May Smith, Dorothy Vaughn and Bessie Harris, six brothers, Bill, Robert, Berchel, Brack, Anderson and Chester Smith and one grandchild.
Left behind to mourn his passing is six daughters, Mirella Baker and husband Ed of Nicholasville, Priscilla Bright and husband Carl of Girdler, Effie Kahren of Corbin, Darlene Lockhart also of Corbin, Faye Mitchell and husband Fred of Woodbine and Jenna Renee’ Farmer and husband Jeff of Nicholasville, one son Dennis Smith of Corbin, five sisters, Edna Lee Jordan of Girdler, Stella Spurlock of Danville, Indiana, Nancy Marie Smith of Barbourville, Patricia Supernaul of Unionville, VA and Barbara Taylor of Barbourville, one brother Bert Smith and wife Lula of Gray, fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Mr. Smith also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Walter Smith will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sam Moore and Rev. Jab Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be family & friends. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dr. Watts, John Miller, David Smith, Willie Burns and Eddie Reece. Mr. Smith will be laid to rest in the Walter Smith Cemetery at Woolum, KY. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the Hampton Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
