Virgil Gray born December 9, 1947 of Walker, KY, went to his heavenly home Saturday January 14, 2017. He was born to the late Samuel Gray and Mary (Smith) Gray. He was united in marriage to Dianna Owens on April 28, 1965 in Barbourville Ky. He was a member of the Dewitt Baptist Church.

Virgil lived life to the fullest . He loved his family, friends, watching westerns and he enjoyed God’s creations of the outdoors. In earlier years his love for hunting is evident by the many friends he made along the journey. As the years went by he discovered his passion for horses and the time he spent with his family and friends on trail rides and camping. While enjoying this part of his life he made many special friends which include, Leonard Smith, Curt Shelton, Lester Grubb, Jimmy Mills, Bradley Brown, David Owens, Jimmy Gray, and Mike Davis along with a host of other coon hunting and horse riding friends. Virgil spent many hours with his grandchildren teaching them how to hunt, ride horses, and the true value of life. Virgil loved the lord and he made sure his children and grandchildren knew the lord as well. He was a very passionate person and would give you the shirt off his back.

Mr. Gray was proceeded in death by several brothers and sisters which include Edward Gray, Hubert Gray, Charlie Gray, Della Mason, Tressie Baker, Ellie Lahulliar, and Omia Gray.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna Gray of Walker, KY and five brothers and two sisters. Estil and wife Brenda Gray of Black Water, KY, Owen Gray, Letcher Gray, Ancil and wife Geneva Gray, and Paul and wife Linda Gray all of Barbourville, KY. Ethel Gray of Woodbine, KY and Elsie Slusher of Florence KY. Also survived by two sons and three daughters. Michael and wife Missy Gray of Woodbine, KY, Allen and wife Marsha Williams of Barbourville, KY, Kim and husband Jeff Patterson of Barbourville, KY, Chrissy and husband Randy Mcvey of Walker, KY, Lynn and husband Greg McDonald of Barbourville KY. Mr. Gray also had 15 grandchildren. Michael Dewayne Gray and mother Debbie Brown of Walker, KY, Donavon Gray of Woodbine, KY, Haley Patterson and Fiancé Matthew Strong of Barbourville, KY, Casey and Dianna Mcvey of Walker, KY, Beth and Husband Robert Frost of Barbourville, KY, Lee McDonald of Barbourville, KY, Justin, Josh, and Jake Thomas of Woodbine, KY, Matthew, Jordan, Zach and Isaiah Williams of Barbourville, KY, Robbie Williams of Barbourville, KY, two great grandchild, Trevor Frost of Barbourville, KY, and Aiden Williams of Barbourville, Ky. Special grandchildren include Cliftina, Cameron, and Chris Brock of Walker, KY. Mr. Gray also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. Gray will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Roark, and Rev. Mike Griffin. Pallbearers will be Matthew Strong, Jeff Merida, Mount Brown, Jimmy Gray, Derrick Gray, Johnathon Mills, Lee McDonald, and Chris Brock. He will be laid to rest in the Gray Cemetery at Walker, KY, Cobb-Hampton Funeral home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 17th, 2017 from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m.
