On July 15, 1942 she united in marriage with F.M. Davis and to this union nine children were born. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Roadside Baptist Church and was a homemaker and a retired cook.
She is preceded in death by her husband F.M. Davis, two sons, Ben Franklin Davis and Clarence Ray Davis, her parents, Allen and Alice Messer, five brothers, Leonard, Powers, Lindsey, Amos and Tommy Messer, three sisters, Florence Cantrell, Lorvis Messer and Janetta Messer and a step mother Rachel Messer
Virgie is survived by three sons, Denver Davis and wife Ruby of Corbin, Ky., M.G. Davis of Corbin and Hobert Davis and wife Linda of Barbourville, Ky., four daughters, Litha Smith and Patricia Merritt both of Barbourville, Evelyn Gray of Corbin and Lois Smith of Barbourville ,four brothers, Reed Messer and wife Linda of Orange Co., Virginia, Lundy Messer and wife Fran of Corbin and Virgil Esmont of Utah, Forester Messer and wife Betty of Piqua, OH. five sisters, Mable Edwards and Wavol Robinson both of Louisville, Ky., Tavia Whitehead and husband Ralph of London, Ky. and Marie Mills Messer and Blanche Woolum Messer both of Corbin. Mrs. Davis also leaves behind twenty grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie Davis will be conducted on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tip Smith and Rev. Denvil Taylor officiating. Pallbearers will be: Ryan Messer, Jimmy Jackson, Matthew Merritt, Brent Messer, Chuck Davis, Denver L. Davis, Jamie Davis and Johnny Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Vora and staff and all family, friends and neighbors. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery at Mills, Ky. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
