Mr. Verlin Smith age 75 of Mills Creek Rd. Flat Lick, KY departed this life on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in the UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was the husband of Esslan Smith and the son of Elzie and Sarah (Swafford) Smith. He was born on June 14, 1934 in Knox Co., KY. Mr. Smith was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding four wheelers, sitting on the porch and take care of his chickens.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Sarah Smith, two sons, Angelo Smith and Chester Smith, four brothers, William T. Smith, Ezlie Smith, Woodson Smith and Golden Smith, three sisters, Gertrude Schaffin, Drucella Campbell and Roberta Young
He is survived by his wife, Esslan Smith of Mills Creek, four sons, Chester Allen of Springfield, Ohio, Tony Lee Smith and wife Teresa Lynn, Hank Smith and Sonny Travis Smith all of Mills Creek, nine daughters, Pauline Smith of Gray, KY, Loretta Smith of Mills Creek, Roberta Vincent and husband Jeromy of Erath, Louisiana, Angela Gail Smith of Barbourville, Crystal Lynne Smith, Jennifer Ann Smith, Kelly Shaye Smith, Kaylee Renee’ Smith all of Mills Creek and Elizabeth Shadshadix and husband Bryant of Patterson, Louisiana, four brothers, Ray Smith, Roscoe Smith, Cecil Smith and Arnold Eugene Smith, one sister Loretta Carpi, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Mr. Smith also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be conducted on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Claude Medlin and Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Pallbearers will be sons and grandsons, David Lowe and Thurman Mills. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chester Allen and Hank Smith. Burial will follow in the Gray Cemetery at Graytown. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
