Ms. Verlie Rose “Bo Pete” Baker age 73 departed this life on Thursday October 30, 2008 in the Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin. She was the daughter of Andrew & Ella (Owens) Baker born to them in Knox County on March 01, 1935. Verlie was a member of the Callahan Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and helping take care of her family and attending church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew & Ella, three brothers Owen Baker, Keith Baker & Elmer Baker, four sisters Marie(Owens) Branstutter, Marie Denney, Elsie Crawford, and Berthal Denney along with one nephew Eddie Owens.


Survivors include three sisters Evelyn Owens & husband James of Barbourville, Ky., Nadine Thomas & husband Al of Ohio, and Bonnie Bailey of Jacksonville, Fla. Twenty-nine nieces & nephews plus a host of other relatives and friends. Special funeral services will be held in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday- November 02, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with the Callihan Baptist Church conducting full services with the congregation & ministers, Rev. Mike Fuson & Rev. Joe Shields in memory of Verlie “ Bo Pete” Baker who was a longtime member & friend. Interment will be in the Dyer Cemetery at California Hollow with family & friends serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be her neighbors of College Heights and especially “Granny”. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening at the Hampton Funeral Home from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Callihan Baptist Church Youth Group.
