Rev. Farmer Smith, Jr. age 73 of Girdler, KY departed this life on Monday, September 22, 2008 at his home. He was the son of Farmer Smith and Cecil (Hopper) Smith born to them on June 1, 1935 in Knox Co. On October 9, 1952 he united in marriage with Christleen Smith and to this union six children were born. Rev. Smith was a Baptist minister and was ordained on August 12, 1967. His first message was on November 13, 1966 at Dripping Springs Baptist Church. He had also been a bus driver for the Knox Co. School System for thirteen years and for thiry eight years he worked on the P & E Farm at Girdler for W. J. Patterson. Farming was what he enjoyed most. He is preceded in death by his parents, Farmer and Cecil Smith, one son Reedie Joe Smith, two brothers, B.B. Smith and G.B. Smith, three sisters, Dorothy Smith, Elsie Mills and Pertie Crawford, three infant sisters, Marella, Abbie and Lora Smith and one great grandchild, Kaitlyn Paige Smith.


Survivors include, his wife of fifty six years, Christleen Smith of Girdler, five children, Betty Ann Bullock and husband Floyd, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Priscilla Belcher and husband Odell of Cannon, Billy David Smith and wife Judy of Hamilton, OH, Evelyn Patterson and husband Larry of Bimble, and Dale Lee Smith and wife Marietta of Girdler, two brothers, R.J. Smith and wife Sally of Greenroad and Otis Smith and wife Phyllis of Bailey Switch, three sisters, Sally McVey of Gray, Alta Gabbard & Clara Mitchell of Hamilton, OH, ten grandchildren, Shana Hudson, Rodney Bullock, Ernie Bingham, Sheila Hinkle, Crystal Soper, Georgie Carew, Lorena Patterson, Tia Patterson, Robbie Smith and Tonya Smith, twenty one great grandchildren, Bradlee Farmer Hudson, Matthew Hudson, Grant Hudson, Jordan McKeehan Bullock, Haley Brown Bullock, Chloey Bingham, Bethany Hensley, Austin Hensley, Nathan Hensley, Elizabeth Joyce Soper, Richard David Soper, Hope Hannah Carew, Kristina Kaylea Carew, Abbagail Marie Carew, Corey Gambrel, Dustin Carpenter, Dylan Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Caleb Jones, Jaxon Jones and Hallie Snyder, a niece Patricia Smith and a nephew, Grover Smith, two sisters in law, Bonnie Smith of Woolum and Sandy Smith of Hamilton, OH. Special friends, W.J. and Sharon Patterson of Girdler, Carl & Cill Bright and Bonnie Miller. Rev. Smith also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Rev. Farmer Smith will be conducted on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jabe Smith, Rev. Keaton Smith and Rev. Arnold Petrey officiating. Pallbearers will be, Ernie Bingham, Robbie Smith, Otis Smith, Jr., Bradlee Hudson, Austin Hensley, Carl Bright, Brandon Smith, Wavelyn Reynolds, Danny Hudson, Joe Jones, Jr., Larry Patterson, Odell Belcher, Billy Hinkle, Corey Gambrel and Dustin Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be the Professional Home Health Nurses & Staff and Dr. Vora & Staff. Rev. Smith will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery at Woolum. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Wednesday evening at the Hampton Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
