Rev. James Mooneyham age 89 of Hinkle, KY passed away on Sunday, October 18th, 2009 in the Knox County Hospital. He was the son of Oscar & Dora (Patterson) Mooneyham, born to them on April 9th, 1920 in Knox County and the husband of Bea (Ross) Mooneyham whom he married on February 22, 1943.
Rev. James Mooneyham was the former pastor of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church where he had preached for 38 years, he was promoted to honorary pastor in 2004, a title which he still holds. He was a member of he board of directors at the Pentecostal Children’s Home for many years and was a co-founder of the Knox County Ministerial Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 187 and a member of the Oleika Shriners Temple. He was also a co-founder and board member of the Mooneyham-Patterson Clan. A World War II Veteran of the United States Army. In 1970 he retired from Commercial Carriers as a truck driver from the Car Haul Division. He always put his church first and helping somebody second. He enjoyed gardening, and grinding corn meal, and was known for many years as the “Saw Mill Preacher”. He also loved to scare people. He was a big prankster.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar & Dora Mooneyham, three brothers R.C. Mooneyham, Aubrey Mooneyham, and Raymond Mooneyham, two sisters Maggie Liford and Honor Clark, and one great grandson, James Ingram Barrett.
Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife Beatrice (Bea) Mooneyham of Hinkle, KY , one son Waveland ( Wade) Mooneyham & wife Darlene of Heidrick, KY, two sisters Carrie Crawford of Corbin, KY, and Marie Sowders of Hinkle, KY, one granddaughter Tonya Barrett & husband Billy and three Great Grandchildren Whitney, Billy, and Mariah. A brother-in-law , Alex Ross of Hinkle, KY, and two sisters-in-law, He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends and the entire Mooneyham-Patterson clan to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Rev. Mooneyham will be conducted at the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Ted Satterfield, Rev. Ed Arthur Rice, and Rev. Tommy Teague officiating. Pallbears will be Denny Jordan, Curt Rose, Denver Jackson, Vernon Liford, Jr. Smith, Alex Ross, Billy Barrett, and Kelly Thomblin. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in the Dozier Cemetery at Bimble. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2p.m. on Tuesday at the Scalf Chapel Church.
