Mr. Ralph Smith, age 68 of Girdler, KY departed this life on December 21, 2013 at his home. He was born on August 18, 1945 in Harlan County. He was the son of John L. and Flora Smith. He was united in marriage to Marie Messer Mills on June 5, 2010. Ralph was a General Motors retiree.
In addition to his parents Ralph was preceded in death by one sister Pauline Cooper, one brother in law Dotson Callebs, one nephew David Jones and his father and mother in law Allen and Rachel Brown Messer.
Survivors include his wife Marie Messer Mills Smith of Girdler, one brother Oakley Smith and wife Gretchen of Norwood Ohio, four sisters Loren Jones and husband Terrell of Carmel Indiana, Rachel Callebs of Callebs creek, Sally Smith and husband Ernie of Bimble, KY, June Gambrel and husband Jack of Rising Sun Indiana, four step children Jerry Wayne Mills and wife Beatrice of Scalf, KY, Larry Mills and wife Lovella of Dewitt, Ky., Donna Sue Lawson and husband Marion, Daniel Lawson of Big Creek in Clay Co. Ky., Ricky Jefferson Mills of Corbin, Ky., Seven Step Grandchildren, Metasha Mills, Brandon Mills, Melinda Mills Hall, Alexandria Denise Lawson Deaton, Zachery Daniel Lawson, Chad Nathaniel Lawson and Jonathan Baker, Four special Great Grandchildren and a very special loving friend Paul Pennington along with a host of many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends left to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Ralph Smith will be conducted in the chapel of the Hampton Funeral Home on Monday December 23, 2013 at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Columbus Hensley, Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Eli Broughton officiating. Burial will follow the Smith cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Smith, Matthew Evans, Tucker Broughton, Tony Callebs, Doug, Callebs, Roger Housman, Johnny Callebs, Gary cooper, Terry Cooper, Jack Gambrel and Brandon Auftenkamp. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Jackson, Ted Jackson, Joe Jones, Dean Liford, Jimmy Jones, Harrison Davis, Virgil Hammons and Eugene Barnes.
The family will receive friends Sunday December 22, 2013 from 3 until 9 pm and from 10 am until the funeral hour at 1 on Monday.
