Ms. Peggy Jane Smith age 89 of Maryville, TN departed this life on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. She was born on November 20, 1918 in Bell Co., KY the daughter of John & Ellen (Epperson) Smith. Mrs. Smith loved to listen to the radio especially Gospel Music and preaching, she also loved to attend church services at the nursing home. After being stricken with polio at an early age her oldest sister Mary tried carrying her to school for over two miles but this proved to hard her.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Lloyd and Arnold Smith four sisters Mary Miller, Lena Smith, Ruby Cate and Virgie S. Asher.
Survivors include two sisters Lois Bowman and husband Earl of Beattyville Ky., and viola Brooks and husband Joseph of Heiskell, Tennessee. Plus several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy Jane Smith will be conducted on Friday March 21, 2008 at 12 noon with Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Flat Lick, KY. With Gary Brooks, Larry Brooks, Anthony Brooks, Norris D. Estes, Jimmy Miller and Jim Bailey serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Bowman, Joe Brooks and Bobby Sayne. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.
