Mr. Otis Smith, age 74, of Barbourville, Kentucky departed this life on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Baptist Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Milton and Edna (Bargo) Smith, born to them on May 21, 1945 in Salt Gum, Kentucky. Otis was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. He was a retired truck driver and welder, working for Starline Manufacturing in Rockford and Harvard, Illinois. Otis loved to tinker in his workshop, work on trucks and was an avid walker.
Otis was united in marriage to Patsy Ann Pierce in December 28, 1963 being blessed with two daughters, Cathy Sue and Janet, before her passing in 1996. Otis was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Edna (Bargo) Smith, infant sister Glenda Sue and brothers E.G. Smith and R.P. Smith.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his loving wife Carolyn Smith, daughters Cathy Sue of Barbourville, Kentucky, Janet Faye Damm and husband Tom of Denver, Colorado, step children Shelly Foley and husband Cecil of Whitesburg, Kentucky, Luke Phipps of Barbourville, Kentucky, and Brent Phipps of Stuart, Florida, grandchildren Nicholas Pierce Damm, Ryan Thomas Damm, Janna Mei and Jolene Smith, Josh and Aly Foley, Travis, Brianna, Eva and Lexie Phipps, Tyler and Dustin Phipps, brother Jerry Wayne Smith and wife Wanda, sister Brenda Faye Warren, sister-in-law Imogene Smith and June Smith, and aunt Bernice Mills. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Otis Smith will be conducted on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mike Helton officiating. Pallbearers will be Dustin Phipps, Tyler Phipps, Ethan Noel, Alan Ledington, Jeremy Bargo and Greg Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pineville Dialysis, Dr. Lohe, Dr. Vora, Dr. Barbara Bargo, Irene Garland, Boone and Kathleen Smith, Gary and Sandy Ledington, Ted and Barbara Bargo, Denny and Jackie Bargo, Gene Ray Messer, Bill Smith, Buddy Noel, Jerry Boles and Adam Mills. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, January 3, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
