Mrs. Ollie Gambrel, age 92, of Flat Lick, KY, departed this life on Saturday, August 17, 2013, in the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center of Barbourville, KY. She was the widow of Lester Gambrel, and the daughter of Henry and Nancy King, born to them on July 9, 1921, in Knox County, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, her parents Henry and Nancy King, two sons, Herman and Calvin Gambrel, three brothers, John T. King, Hubert King, and Anse King, and two sisters, Elizabeth Hinkle and Cordie King. Mrs. Gambrel was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors of Mrs. Ollie Gambrel include four sons, Aubrey Gambrel and wife Christine, Burlington, KY, Clayton Gambrel, Barbourville, KY, Roy Gambrel and wife Connie, Morning View, KY, and William Lester Gambrel and wife Mary, Flat Lick, KY; four daughters, Estelene Gray, Flat Lick, KY, Ethel Baker, Flat Lick, KY, Julia Warren and Husband Johnny, Flat Lick, KY, and Carolyn Smith, Barbourville, KY; twenty grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and twenty-two great great grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Gambrel will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Eli Broughton and Rev. Roy Woods officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons of Mrs. Gambrel. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center, and the Hospice of the Bluegrass. Burial will follow in the Gambrel Cemetery at Turkey Creek, KY. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
