Mrs. Mae Ota Hale, age 91, of Barbourville departed this life on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in the Knox County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Milton and Flossie Foley Broughton, born to them on December 5, 1923. Mrs. Hale was a retired cook for the Knox County Public Schools and was of the Baptist faith. She united in marriage to Myrl Hale and to this union eight children were born. Along with her parents and husband Myrl, she was preceded in death by her brothers; John, Cecil, Eugene, Lester, Leslie and Noble Broughton; one sister, Imogene; a daughter, Betty Sue Hale; Two grandchildren, Donnie Tarlton Lawson and Shauna Lee Hale.



Mae is survived by her daughters: Ruby H. Davis (Eddie) of Barbourville, Myrlyn Lawson (Don) of Barbourville, Bobbie Doolin (Frankie) of Heidrick, Stella H. Abner (Mike) of Artemus and Karen Carrico (Tom) of Hudson, Ohio: Two sons; Lee Roy Hale (Ima Faye) of Corbin, and Lewis Hale (Retha) of London: Her sister, Rosa Carter; Seventeen grandchildren: Eddie Jeffery Davis (Mandy), Nina Rae Bingham (Brent), Kristopher Todd Davis (Laura), Preshus Joyell Howard (Billy), James Michael Abner, JoAnna Lynn Dougherty (Gordon), Ashley Brooke Raquel Doolin (George Messer), Alysha Raeanne Floyd (Brandon), Adam Lee Abner, Brooke Abner Holt, Emily Desirae Hale, Lucas Garrett Hale, Alyssa Mackenzie Carrico, Kristin AnnaMae Carrico, and Karalee Faith Hale. Sixteen Great Grandchildren: Maria Lee Davis, Dustin Davis, Susan Davis, Brittany Davis, Brandy Davis, Danielle Davis, Andy Davis, Owen Davis, Toni Monte Bingham, Brendon Bingham, Raegan Joyell Howard, Tyler Abner, Mackenzie Abner, Brayden Holt, Bryce Abner and Enoch Abner. Mae also leaves behind a host of other friends and relatives to mourn her passing.



Funeral services for Mae Ota Hale will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jeffrey Branum and Rev. David Barnard officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville City Cemetery with Jeff Davis, Kris Davis, Adam Abner, Brent Bingham, Lucas Hale, Billy Howard, George Messer, Brandon Floyd and Gordon Dougherty serving as pallbearers.



Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Friday, January 2, 2015 after 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and on Saturday, after 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour at 11:00 A.M.



The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center Physical Therapy Department, Nursing and Nurse Aid Staff: Knox County Hospital Intensive Care Unit, Dr. West, Dr. Warren, Dr. Lohe and Dr. Vora: Mom's angel of a caretaker, Faye Farmer, special friend, Vernie Hensley, and many other special friends and family.



In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Donnie Lawson Endowment Scholarship at Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.
