Mr. Mathias Carnes age 94 of Artemus, Ky. went to be with the Lord on Monday- December 03, 2007 at his home. He was the son of Rev. Bill Carnes and Margaret Messer Carnes born to them on April 20, 1913 in Knox Co., KY and was the widower of Juanita Carnes Mr. Carnes enjoyed hunting and fishing, working in his flowers and gardening and his working with his honeybees. He especially loved being with his grandchildren, family & friends. Mr. Carnes was preceded in death by his parents and his wife along with one son Eugene Carnes, two sisters Martha May and Mary Baker and one brother Abe Carnes and six grandchildren.
Survivors include: three sons Billy Ray Carnes and wife Mevlene of Arjay, Ky., Lonnie Carnes and wife Margaret of Greenfield, Ind. and Glenn Carnes of Walker, Ky., five daughters Doris Brown of London, Ky., Beatrice Leath and husband James Clarence of Artemus, Ky., Evelyn Mills and Rev. Farmer C. Mills of Barbourville, Ky., Judy Messer and husband Edward Messer, Jr. of Barbourville, Ky., and Betty Shelton and husband Jack of London, Ky., one brother Noah Carnes and wife Jenny of London, Ky., twenty grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren in addition to a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Mr. Carnes will be conducted on Thursday-December 6, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Abner and Rev. Owen Smith officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday evening after 6:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mr. Carnes' grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be the Knox Co. Home Health staff. Burial will follow in the Carnes-Messer Cemetery at Walker, Ky. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
