Mrs. Mary Wilma Roark age 92, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away Thursday in the North East Atlanta Health & Rehab Center. She was the widow of Mr. Herman Roark and the daughter of the late Charles F. & Mabel (Brown) Carty born to them on April 2, 1916 in Knox Co. Mrs. Roark was a schoolteacher and enjoyed being a homemaker, bowling, and was an avid supporter of the Redbird Mission Center; she also liked traveling and watching TV. Her first job was at New Bethel where she taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade, and then she went to work at Jack’s Creek Mission School for 3 years and then went to Girdler Elementary School. She then moved to Kettering Ohio where she taught for 25 years. Mrs. Roark was a member of the Sandy springs United Methodist Church in Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles & Mabel, her husband Herman, two brothers William, and Kenneth Carty, and one sister Mildred Smith. Survivors include, one son Leonard & wife Diane of Flint, Michigan, one daughter Luella Losey of Sandy Springs, Georgia, one brother Gene & wife Lillie of Girdler, Ky, one sister Page Chrisman & husband Theo of Hallsville, TX, four Grandchildren, and two Great Grandchildren. Mrs. Roark also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Roark will be conducted on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Barnard. Pallbearers will be Grandsons & Nephews. Mrs. Roark will be laid to rest in the Carty Cemetery at Girdler. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
