Mrs. Leona” Toy” Messer age 62 of Girdler, KY departed this life on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 in the Pineville Community Hospital. She was the wife of Floyd Messer. She was born on September 06, 1945 to the late Clarence & Nola Smith. Mrs. Messer was a member of the Dripping Springs Baptist Church. She had previously been employed by Warner’s for 33 years and just completed her schooling to be a Surgical Tech. She enjoyed singing with her mother & sisters in a gospel group called the “Smith quintet ”for 32 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Erma Lee Smith and Elva Jean Smith, a special brother-in-law Don Jackson and a sister-in-law Willa Smith.
Survivors include her husband Floyd Messer of Girdler, KY, three brothers Melvin Smith & wife Eller of Callebs Creek, KY, Reece Smith & wife Suerella of Hinkle, KY, Carson Smith & wife Stella of Bimble, KY, three sisters Irene Jackson & husband Fred of Girdler, KY, Ernestine Collins & husband Joe of Girdler, KY, Ilene Hubbard & husband James of Hinkle, KY and her special caregiver Mrs. Eleanor McKnight. Mrs. Messer also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Messer will be conducted on Saturday, August 09, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Broughton & Rev. Dewayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Callebs Creek Cemetery at Hinkle, KY. Pallbearers will be family & friends. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Read Friday, Saturday: The family will receive friends on Friday evening at Hampton Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 11:00 a.m.
