Mrs. Kitty Owens age 89 of Barbourville, KY departed this life on Monday, December 21, 2015 in the UK Medical Center in Lexington. She was the daughter of Anthony & Nancy (Bargo) Merida born to them on August 14, 1926 in Jarvis, KY. Mrs. Owens was a member of the Callihan Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Owens was the wife of Sam Owens and to this union four children were born. Her husband precedes her in death along with her parents and one son, Luke Owens, five brothers, Junior, Floyd, James, Chester D. and General Lee Merida, four sisters, Mahalia Owens, Cora Campbell, Cleo Lemmon, Gracie Liggett and one infant sister who died at birth.
Mrs. Owens leaves behind to mourn her passing, her loving children, two sons, Paul Owens and wife Vivian of Flint, Michigan and Lonnie Owens and wife Jo of Bailey Switch, KY, and one daughter Doris Hensley and husband Larry of Owens Hollow, two brothers, Shelby Merida of Evansville, Indiana and Ray Merida of Jarvis, KY, two sisters, Francis Thimbling and Agnes Taylor both of Evansville, Indiana, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two very special adopted grandchildren, Kalashia and Caleah who she loved very much. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Owens will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at 12:00 noon with Rev. Jim Bargo officiating. Pallbearers will be, Colby Felts, Lonnie Owens, Luke Owens, Sam Owens, Matthew Masters, Bill Masters, Deen Owens, Rick Owens and Nathan Owens. She will be laid to rest in the Bargo Cemetery at Jarvis, KY. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 12:00 noon.
