Mr. John Henry Surgener, age 82 of Belleville, Michigan, formerly of Harlan County, KY was born on Wednesday November 12, 1924 and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2007. Mr. Surgener was a member of the Melvindale Baptist Church, He also had worked for Cadillac Motor Co., Local 22 in Detroit, Michigan until his retirement in 1976. He was the son of the late Steve Surgener & Sudie Hall. He was preceded In death by his wife Laura Laverne Surgener, two sisters Lydia Surgener & Louanne Napier, his mother and father In-law Effie Lee (Garrison) & Walter Gibson,His son in-law Billy Ray Elliot, his sister in-law Bonnie (Isom) Gibson, brothers in law M.F.Brooks and Therm (Teddy) Montgomery and His Aunt Polly Hall Surgener Day and one Uncle Plenty Hall.
Leaving to mourn his passing, his six children: Sharon Kay & husband Eyvind Claxton, of Belleville, MI. Effie Sue & husband Robert Petrie of Curtis, MI, Janice Marie & husband L.J. Vinson of Barbourville, Ky. Judy Carol & husband Larry Hammons of Cannon, Ky, Johnnie Walter & wife Kim Surgener of Ypsilanti, MI and Frances Gail Eiiliot of Cannon, Ky. His brother Noah Surgener & Wife Ula of Harlan, Ky, 15 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral Services for Mr. Surgener will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, On Saturday -October 6, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. With Rev. Owen Smith & Rev. Tipp Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Zeb Garrison, Larry Gibson, Roger Garrison, John Garrison, Joey Nichols, Mickey Hammons. Honorary Pallbearers ,Knox County Hospital & staff, Dr. Vora, Dr. Lohe, & Dr. Hasni. Interment will be in the Gilbert Cemetery at Girdler, Ky. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
