Mr. John Simeon “Sim” Pickard age 94, of Jarvis, KY, passed away Thursday Morning, November 19, 2009 at his home. He was the son of the Rev. Dr. Henry Pickard & Allie Florence (Taylor) Pickard born to them on January 21, 1915 in Laurel County.
Sim was the former mail carrier for the Gray area, He had worked for the Postal Service for 38 years, and served in the Three C’s, he was a avid farmer who loved his animals especially his mules Kate, and Suz. He also enjoyed his pet dogs very much, and like to fish, and coon hunt in his earlier years. Sim enjoyed being with his family & friends and was a member of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Dr. Henry Pickard & Allie Florence Pickard, his first wife Nila (Helton) Pickard, one daughter Wanda Jewell Pickard, three brothers Henry, Samuel and Caleb Pickard, and eight sisters Lily Hale, Mattie Stanifer, Mary Messer, Pearl Rudder, Della Pickard, Ruth Clark, Verlie Pittman, and Sarah Hall.
Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife Kathleen (Shelton) Pickard of Jarvis, KY, one daughter Sandra Marcella Pickard of Barbourville, KY, one step daughter Nancy Moye & husband Bobby of Jackson, New Jersey, one grand daughter Vickie Cox McGlennon & husband Eric of Lexington, KY, one step grand daughter Jennifer Lisznyai & husband Danny of Columbia, South Carolina, one grandson Woodrow “Simmie” Slusher of Jarvis, KY, two great grandchildren John Samuel Cox, and Sabrina Jewell McGlennon both of Lexington, KY, and one great step grand daughter Katelyn Lisznyai of Columbia, South Carolina, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Pickard will be conducted on Sunday – November 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denvil Taylor, Rev. Dennis Chesnut and John Samuel Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Jack Helton Family Cemetery with B.J. Burnett, Josh Sparks, James Isom, Joey Baker, Steven Lewis, Jim Rudder and James Rudder serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Harold & Edith Prince, Charles & Janet Baker, Sue Sevier, Gary & Doreen Cornelius and Johnny Crawford. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
