Mr. John L. Mills, Jr. age 77 of Girdler, Kentucky departed this life on Tuesday evening June 22, 2021 in the UK Medical Center in Lexington. He was born on February 18, 1944 in Fount, Kentucky, the son of John L. Mills and Emma Mills.

Mr. Mills was co-owner of Mills Brothers Garbage Service in Girdler and loved working and driving his truck. He enjoyed fishing, mowing grass, traveling, singing and playing his guitar, bowling,  old cars and trucks and watching Andy Griffith on TV. He was a member of the Horn Branch Baptist Church.

Mr. Mills was preceded in death by his loving wife Linda Mills, his parents, John and Emma Mills, three brothers, Vernon Mills, Farmer C. Mills and Arnold Mills, two sisters, Stacy Fields, and Jeanette Patterson. He is also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters in law.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Crystal West and husband Dr. James West, and grandson, Conor L. West of Barbourville, two brothers, R. J. Mills and wife Odie Mae and Clark Mills and wife Jamie of Girdler, KY, four sisters, Nadine Elliot and husband Lonnie, Lena Garrison and husband Wayne and Georgia Carter all of Barbourville, and Geneda Garland of Harlan,  a special sister-in-law, Thelma Gilliam, who the family would like to send special thanks and appreciation for all she has done. Mr. Mills also leaves behind many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. John Mills, Jr. will be conducted on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Smith and Rev. John Shell officiating. Pallbearers will be Ricky Mills, Tommy Mills, Roger Mills, Patrick Mills, Billy Mills, Jeff Mills, Wayne Mills, Jerry Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be all past and present employees of Mills Garbage Service. He will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery at Woolum. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday prior to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
