Joe Mills, Jr

Mr. Joe Mills Jr, age 80 of Hammond, KY departed this life on Friday, October 15th, 2010 in the Knox County Hospital. He was the widower of Cathleen (Cole) Mills and the son of Joe and Dora (Smith) Mills born to them on December 22, 1929 in Knox County.
Mr. Mills was a member of the Mills Missionary Baptist Church where he had been a long time Deacon, he was retired from General Motors Corporation, and was a farmer and a horse trader.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cathleen Mills, his parents Joe & Dora Mills, one brother Charlie Mills, six sisters Sallie Bright, Carrie Bright, Sudie Bargo, Annie Bright, Fannie Mills, and Vina Shelton, three grandchildren Brian Stacy Mills, Crystal Gail Mills, and Donovan Tait Mills, four brothers-in-law Jim Cole, Clifford Cole, Lester Mills, and Lester Merida, three sisters-in-law Cleadie Mills, Sally Mills and Beulah Merida.
Left behind to mourn his passing is two sons, Don Mills & wife Jane, and Darrell Mills & wife Jennie both of Corbin, KY, one daughter Vickie Abner & husband E.G. of Heidrick, KY, two grandchildren Brittany VanDeCar & husband James of Richmond, KY and Jeremy Abner & wife Joey of Girdler, KY, one great-granddaughter Rylee Elizabeth VanDeCar, brothers & sisters-in-law Myrtle Cole, Ruth Cole, Everett Cole& wife Helen, Raymond Cole & wife Joanne, Harold Cole & wife Frances, David Cole, Wanda Field & husband Bob, and Curtis Cole & wife Wanda. Mr. Mills also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Mills will be conducted on Monday, October 18th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Carnes, Rev. Jerry Smith, and Rev. Herman Mills officiating. Pallbearers will be members from the Mills Missionary Baptist Church. Honorary Pallbearers are Special Care giver Ann Mills, Dr. West & staff of the Knox County Hospital and Dr. John Hobbs. Burial will follow in the Cole’s Branch Cemetery. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the Hampton Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6:00p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
