Mr. Jerry Wayne Garland Sr. age 60 of Barbourville, KY passed away on Sunday
May 10th, 2009 in the Knox County General Hospital. He was the son of the late Beckham & Sydna (Allen) Garland and was born to them on September 7th, 1948.
Mr. Garland was President and CEO of G&M Oil Corporation, Mountain Ridge Drilling, and Garland Restaurants. He was a former Knox County Coroner having served a total of sixteen years first from 1986 until 1993 then again in 1999 until 2006, he also was a member of the Barbourville Fire Dept. for sixteen years from 1980 until 1996. He was a veteran of the National Guard and was a member of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, singing, woodworking, Nascar, and spending time with family & friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Beckham & Sydna Garland, three brothers Franklin Garland, Jakie Garland, and Donnie Garland, one granddaughter Sydna Elizabeth Katherine Corey and one brother in-law Vance Mills.
Left to mourn his passing is his fiancé Marilyn Baker, his former wife Kathy Sue Garland of Barbourville, KY and their three children, Jerry Wayne Garland II & wife Lorrie, Donna Rejai (Garland) Corey & husband Jeff, and Becky Sue (Garland) Miller & husband Kevin all of Bimble, KY, one sister Marie Mills of Barbourville, KY, six grandchildren William Jeremy Micia Corey, Jacob Sawyer Charles Corey, Jayci Elizabeth Rajai Corey, Marlee Kate Miller, John Keith Grant Miller, and Jacob Daniel Garland and one sister in-law Irene Garland. Mr. Garland also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Garland will be in the Conway Boatman Chapel at Union College on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Cleo Goodlet ,
Rev. Sylvester Dunn and Mike Corey will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Alva Patterson, Mike Howard, Greg Helton, J.M. Hall, Joey Thompson, Lyle Daniels, David Bruner, and Robert Wyatt. Honorary Pallbearers Jeff Corey, Kevin Miller, Micia Corey, Sawyer Corey, Grant Miller, Jake Miller, Jimmy Smith, Gary Magard, Richie Miller, and Kenny Miller, also the family & friends of G&M Oil, Mountain Ridge Drilling & Garland Restaurants. Mr. Garland will be laid to rest in the Hawn Cemetery at Bimble. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at the Conway Boatman Chapel after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
