Mrs. Janetta Sue (Barnes) Hammons, age 84 of Lexington, Kentucky departed this life on Friday, January 19, 2024 in the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. She was the widow of Elmer Hammons who she married on May 29, 1954 and was the daughter of Henry Crit Barnes and Beatrice (Abner) Barnes born to them on July 9, 1939 in Knox County. Janetta believed in the Baptist faith. She loved spending time with her family, shopping,  watching sports, especially UK basketball and her Cadillac.

She is preceded in death by her husband Elmer Hammons in 1998, her parents, Henry Crit Barnes and Beatrice Barnes and a daughter Terry Lynn Mitchell.

Left behind to mourn her passing, her loving children, Billy Ray Hammons of Michigan, Sherry Beatrice Maybrier and Gwen Delaine Hammons both of Lexington, four siblings, Nancy Dubois (James) of Florida, Byrl Rabren of South Carolina, Theo Barnes of Texas and Geraldine Priebe (Joe) of Michigan, five grandchildren, Tina Dawn Schaffer (Jason), Michael Hammons (Rachel), John Mitchell, Elizabeth Newell and Christian Hammons, ten great-grandchildren, Kayla Renee’ Wilson (Hunter), Zachary Wayne Wilson (Megan), Taylor Douglas Wilson (Gabby), Clay Marshall Wilson, Ashlyn Kathleen Schaffer, Emmeline Rose Schaffer, Hannah Hammons, Hayley Hammons, Hayden Renee’ Lee Bryant and Miles Hammons, two great-great grandchildren, Ella Grace Wilson and Penelope Mae Thompson. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friend to mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Mrs. Janetta Hammons will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Darrell Warren officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Hammons Cemetery at Greenroad. Pallbearers will be Zachary Wilson, Taylor Wilson, Hunter Thompson, Michael Hammons and John Mitchell. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m.
