Mr. James Eveard Callihan age 85 of Girdler departed this life on Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the Knox Co. Hospital. He was the son of Joe and Winnie (Messer) Callihan born to them on April 9, 1929 in Knox Co. Mr. Callihan was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He owned many businesses before retiring after thirty eight years from Greer Bros. and Young Construction. He was also a carpenter and built the first motel in Inez, KY. He was the oldest living male descendant of Ewing & Lucinda Smith Callihan family.
Mr. Callihan is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Callihan, two brothers, Arnold Callihan and John A. Messer.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing, two brothers, Kenneth Callihan and wife Esther and J.S. Callihan all of Baughman, three sisters, Carrie Collins of Baughman, Sallie Smith of Seven Mile, Ohio and his loving sister Bobbie Jones of Girdler who was also his caretaker and provider and where he made his home. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and three maternal first cousins, Rev. Bill Messer of North Carolina, Nora lee Baker of Baughman and Martha Merida also of Baughman,a special paternal first cousin, Hazel Callihan Smith of Cannon. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. James Callihan will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 156, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Barnard officiating. Pallbearers will be, Harold Jones, Justin Sizemore,Jjerry Mills, Sammy Jones, Matt Jones, Craig Merida, Tyler Grubb, Greg McDonald, Arnold Callihan, Jr. and Rick Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be, Dr. William Thomas Ashburn, Dr. Richard Carter, Dr. Raju Vora, staff of Barbourville Family Health and Knox Professional Home Health, the Earl & Belle Fisher family and the Overbey family of Trace Branch. Mr. Callihan will be laid to rest in the Jones Cemetery at Greenroad, KY. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
