Helen (Chadwell) Jones, age 76 of Girdler, Kentucky was born December 28, 1948 in Knox County, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mossie (Mills) Chadwell.

Helen united in marriage to the late Clinton Alvin Jones on April 9. 1966 and together they had three daughters, Diana, Kimberly and Melissa (Missy). Though later divorced, Helen and Alvin remained good friends. Helen was a homemaker, taking care of their three girls and surviving their occasional fights and deception over breaking beans.

Helen was a generous caregiver to loved ones throughout her life, including her parents, her sister Cleo and her grandchildren. She loved her home, her flower bushes, her soap operas, mowing the yard with her lawn mower, and cooking for her family. She could always be found in the kitchen, cooking dishes like bean dumplings, blackberry dumpling, and polk-sallet. Helen also had a soft spot in her heart for dogs, including special companions over the years- Littl’en, Bud and Colby.

After spending her elderly years the way she wanted, at home with her dog, TV Land shows, snack cakes and visits from loved ones, Helen departed this earth on December 29, 2024 at ARH Hospital in Barbourville, Kentucky following a brief stay.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, father of her children, five brothers, Leo Chadwell, Eugene Chadwell, Bobby Chadwell, Jerry Chadwell, Perry Chadwell and two sisters, Christine Chadwell and Cleo Chadwell as well as brother-in-law John Jones, sisters-in-law, Ethel Chadwell and Elizabeth Chadwell. Most recently Helen mourned the loss of her first-born daughter, Diana Murphy.

Left behind to mourn her passing are Helen’s daughters Kim Smith and husband Ralph of Boone Height, Kentucky, Melissa Frost and husband Michael of Gray, Kentucky along with her sister Betty Jones of London, Kentucky and brother Glenn Chadwell of Lebanon, Ohio.

Helen also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Brittany Lewis and husband Derek of London, Kentucky, Brandon Frost and wife Linda of Girdler, Kentucky, Robert Frost and wife Brandie of Gray, Kentucky, Joshua Murphy of Boone Height, Kentucky, Jo Beth Bingham of Richmond, Virginia, Mike Frost and wife Elisa of Barbourville, Kentucky, Jamie Miller and husband Shannon of Barbourville, Kentucky, and Cameron Smith of Boone Height, Kentucky. Helen especially enjoyed fun visits from all her great grandchildren, Trevor, Jamison, Ruger, Kenlynn, Kensley, Kennedy, Whitney, Emma, Brailey, Devin, Damian, Athena and Alexander. She was known to not care if the grandchildren tore the house down.

Many neighbors, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law from her marriage to Alvin, were also cherished and are left to mourn.

Family and friends will gather at Hampton-Hutton Funeral Home on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 12:00 noon with the funeral taking place at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Nathan Ledington will preside over the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. The interment will follow in the Chadwell Family Cemetery in Girdler.
