Mrs. Gertrude Hinkle, age 96 of Girdler, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Davis and Edna Smith, born to them on April 14, 1919 in Knox County. Mrs. Hinkle was a homemaker. She believed in the holiness faith and was a member of the Hughes Hill Holiness Church in Girdler. On November 21, 1936, she united in marriage to Charlie Hinkle and to this union, nine children were born. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Hinkle: a brother, John Smith: Sisters; Pauline Renyolds, Eulene Mills and Amanda Stewart: Three sons; CD, Matthew and Cleto Hinkle: One daughter, Shirley Sproles: a son-in-law, Rev. Gilbert Sproles: One Daughter-in-law: Barbara Hinkle: Four granddaughters; Cloriece Hinkle, Denise Hinkle, Shannon Bingham and Tammy Stewart: One grandson, Charles Sproles.

Mrs. Hinkle is survived by her children: Ernest Hinkle, Charlene Smith and husband Aubrey: Larry Hinkle and wife Glenda: Agnes Merida and husband Wayne: Judy Smith and husband Junior; Her sisters: Launa Hale and Jean Stewart; Brothers: Clandus Smith and Bob Smith: Daughter-in-laws, Marybell Hinkle and Flossie Hinkle: She was blessed with thirty-four grandchildren, seventy-five great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Hinkle will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Tommy Frazier and Rev. John Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren-Moore Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacey Sizemore, Professional Home Health Care, Knox County Hospital and the Grace Community Health Center.

Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 after 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM: On Wednesday, after 10:00 A.M. until 9:00 PM and on Thursday, after 10:00 AM until the funeral hour at 2:00.
