Mr. James Garfield Taylor age 84 of Elam Branch, Barbourville departed this life on Saturday, July 21, 2018 in the Hillcrest Health & Rehabilitation Center in Corbin. He was born on January 14, 1934 in Rose Hill, Virginia and was the son of George Washington Taylor and Gracie Rice Frederick. He was united in marriage with Mable Roark and to this union nine children were born. He was a heavy equipment operator in the Coal business and worked for several different companies. He was a member of the Calvary Apostolic Lighthouse. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, James Robin Taylor ad Larkin J. Taylor, three brothers, Lee Manuel Taylor, Don Rice and Robert Bingham and one sister, Ruth Jackson.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Mable Taylor of Barbourville, his sons, Glenn Taylor and wife Janet of Barbourville, Marion Taylor and wife Sandra of Monon, Indiana, Clinton Taylor and wife Jane of Lafayette, Indiana, Dean Taylor and Dale Taylor both of Barbourville, two daughters, Sylvia Phillips of Dunnellon, Florida and Cindy Metzger of Royal Center, Indiana, three sisters, Lucy Hyatt, Ella Mills and Cordie Gambrel and husband Paul of Barbourville, fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Mr. Garfield Taylor will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ron Mosher officiating. Pallbearers will be, grandsons and great-grandsons. Burial will follow in the Taylor-Rice Cemetery at Elam Branch. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
