Evan Coolidge Smith

Mr. Evan Coolidge Smith age 94 of Barbourville, KY departed this life on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Diversacare of Claiborne in New Tazewell, TN. He was the son of William and Virgil Mae (Lewallen) Smith, born to them on November 15, 1924 in Barbourville, Kentucky.  Evan was married to his beloved wife Norma Brown Smith on May 13, 1946, and to this union two daughters and one son were born. Coolidge was a member of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church.  He was a miner and logger.

He is preceded in death by his wife Norma Brown Smith and his parents William and Virgil Mae Smith, and sister Irene Runyon.

Left behind to mourn his passing are son Evan Keith Smith and wife Gwendolyn of Barbourville, Kentucky, daughters Janet Wilder and husband James ‘Dickie’ of Corbin, Kentucky, Wilma Smith Girdner and husband Ike of Cincinnati, Ohio, granddaughter Angela Roden and husband Eric of Southside, Alabama, and two great-grandsons, Evan Brand of Southside, Alabama and McKinley Roden of Southside, Alabama, sister Helen Brooks Mills of Winchester, Kentucky, sister-in-law Marcella Owens of Wapakoneta, Ohio, nieces and nephews Paula Jordan and husband Larry of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Winifred Brooks of Winchester, Kentucky, Carl Runyon and wife Linda of Artemus, Kentucky, Brenda Runyon Bryant and husband Larry of Barbourville, Kentucky, and James William Runyon and wife Linda of Knoxville, Tennessee, his lifelong friends Waylon Runyon of Barbourville, Kentucky and JB Runyon of Ohio.   He also leaves behind a host of many relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

The family would like to extend some special thanks to Jerry for taking care of his yard and always having time to chat, to Diversacare Nursing Home and all the staff who took such good care of our father – you were all so very special to him, and a special thank you to Marie (his special care taker) and to Heather who always kept the family in touch.

Funeral services for Mr. Evan Coolidge Smith will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Ronnie Rose officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Croley Cemetery at Bryants Store. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
