Mr. Eugene Merida age 75 of Turkey Creek passed away Saturday-April 21, 2007 at his home. He was the husband of Martha Merida also of Turkey Creek.
Mr. Merida was the son of the late Dallas Merida and the late Mary Ellen Powell Merida born to them on March 3, 1932 in Artemus, Ky. On May 16, 1967 he married Martha Messer and to this union two sons and one daughter was born. Mr. Merida was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received numerous medals and awards. He received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Mr. Merida was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Mary Merida, one son, David Gene Merida and one brother Emanuel Ray Merida. SURVIVORS INCLUDE: His wife: Martha Merida of Turkey Creek, Ky. Daughters: Debra Rae Light of Michigan Linda Brown and husband Randy of Turkey Creek, Ky. Sons: Daniel Lee Merida and wife Adah, Retired Navy; Middleburg, Fl. Steven Eugene Merida and wife Jo Anne, US Air Force, Abilene, Tx. James Merida and wife Vivian of Girdler, Ky. One Brother: William Merida of Turkey Creek Sisters: Geneva Smith of Oxford, Oh. Delsie Baker of Turkey Creek, Ky. Drucilla Clark and husband James of Orlando, Fl. Special sister-in-law: Nora Lee Baker Grandchildren: Gary Eugene Merida, Dallas Edward Merida, Cassandra Riley, Kendra Phillips and one great grandchild Kaylee Abigail Merida. In addition to a host of friend and family to mourn his passing. Funeral services for Mr. Merida will be conducted on Thursday-April 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home with the Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Ricky Partin officiating. Pallbearers will be Robert Crawford, Bill Brown, Bowman, Brown, General Brown, Randy Brown, Dallas Brown, William Allen and Perry Valentine. Honorary Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors and Dr. Vora. Burial will follow in the Carnes Cemetery at Turkey Creek. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
