Esther Smith age 97 of Barbourville, KY was born on June 18, 1911 in Bell County, Ky., and departed this life in the Central Baptist Hospital on Monday, September 8, 2008. She was the widow of Charlie B. Smith and the daughter of John & Bessie (Messer) Baker. Esther was a homemaker, and believed in the Holiness faith; she enjoyed quilting and growing plants and giving them away.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charlie Smith, her parents John & Bessie Baker, three brothers Gilbert “Bear” Baker, Dillis Baker & Ellis Baker, one sister Lillie Hardy, and one niece Ivory O’Guin. Survivors include, one son Dorman Smith & wife Marilyn of Barbourville, Ky., one grandchild Eric Daniel Smith, one special niece Mae Hardy and a host of other nieces & nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Smith will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sylvester Dunn, Rev. Ted Satterfield, and Rev. John Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Carnes Cemetery at Baughman. Pallbearers will be Family & Friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Knox County Hospital Long Term Care Unit. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Visitation will be on Wednesday eveing from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
