Ellar Smith Brock of Hinkle, Kentucky departed this life on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital being 79 years, 7 months and 16 days of age. She was born on April 13, 1937 in Knox County, Kentucky to the late Taylor Smith and the late Mary Gambrel Smith. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Woodson Brock, Jr.; her son Billy Jo Brock; brothers: Richard Smith, Golden Smith, John Smith Lincoln Smith, Brandy Smith and Denver Smith; sister: Alabama Jackson, Axie Smith, Effie Jordan, Abby Riley, America Hinkle and Tressie Smith; her granddaughter Kristy Marie Brock; her great-grandson Trevor Brock; her step mother Artie Macy Bruner and daughter-in-law Darlene Brock. Ellar was of the Baptist Faith and a dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and caregiver who fostered over 100 foster children. Her greatest joy was her grandbabies and she enjoyed spending time working in her flowers.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing her three sons: Donald Brock and wife Sheila, O.J. Brock and Ron Brock; two daughters: Kim Brock and Joanie Caudell and husband Jimmy; two brothers: Rev. Owen Smith and wife Beverly and Rev. Tip Smith and wife Sharon; 4 sisters: Lille Wilson and husband Darrell, Christalene Barrett and husband Kenneth Darrell, Darlene Grubb and husband Jerry and Sue Messer and husband Dexter; Daughter-in-law: Charlotte Brock; 14 grandchildern and 8 great-grandchildren
A funeral service to commemorate the life of Ellar Brock will be conducted on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00PM in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eli Broughton officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Gambrel Cemetery at Spruce Pine with Family and Friends servings as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Hampton Funeral Home.
