Mr. Dwayne Sherwood Adkins
Mr. Dwayne Sherwood Adkins age 70, of Artemus, KY, passed away on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of Joan (Hensley) Adkins and the son of the late William (Willie) & Golda Elizabeth Duncan Adkins of Winfield, TN, born to them on September 27th, 1939.
He was employed at the Kentucky Utilities Plant in Four Mile, KY, as an engineer before retiring in March of 1997. Mr. Adkins was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Winfield, TN. An was an avid deer hunter and spent many hours tending to his purple martin birds.
He was preceded in death by his parents William & Golda Adkins, and his brother William Frayne Adkins.
On July 4, 1959 he was united in marriage to Joan Hensley Adkins his precious wife of 50 years and to this union two daughters were born Vickie Adkins Cobb & husband Sam, and Laura Lee Shupe; survivors also include four grandchildren, Jonathan Derek Smith and wife Shannon, Joanie Elizabeth Smith, Caitlin Scarlett Shupe and Ethan Dwayne Shupe; one great granddaughter, Olivia Rae Smith; his dear aunts, Mary Duncan Cross and Ruth Adkins Daugherty; his dear uncle , Robert ( Bobby) Duncan, his sisters-in-law, Helen Hensley Mills, Vera Bishop Adkins and Lois Hensley Woods,one brother-in-law, Bobby Hensley his dear friend Keith A. Ramsey & wife Dean, plus a host of other nieces & nephew, relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Adkins will be conducted on Wednesday – October 7th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Campbell & Rev. Ricky Partin officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery with Jeff Adkins, Paul Dean Adkins, Rodney Woods,Butch Mills and Ronnie Davis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Keith Ramsey, Ronnie Elliott, Sam Cobb and Jason Wagers.
The Adkins family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00a.m. And on Tuesday from 1:00p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00.
