Dorothy Jewel (Messer) Cain

Dorothy Jewel Cain age 90 years young went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at UK Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Dorothy was born on November 15, 1930 in Jenson, Bell County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Grant and Myrtle Messer.

Dorothy was the loving wife of Bill “Pap” Cain for sixty-eight years. Dorothy was a loving mother to three sons and one daughter. She worked for over twenty years as district manager for Avon. Along with her husband, they were blessed to fulfill a a dream of opening the first Motel in Barbourville, Best Western Motel. Dorothy owned and operated her New & Old Treasures store where she enjoyed meeting people and witnessing to them about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Dorothy was passionate about sharing her faith, a true prayer warrior and a devoted member of Faith Tabernacle Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Grant and Myrtle Messer, her husband Bill “Pap” Cain, a daughter, Margaret Bruce and a grandson, Billy Ryan Cain, a sister, Gladys Hensley, brothers, Grant Messer, Jr., Eugene Messer, Paul Messer and Jimmy Messer.

Those left to mourn her passing include her sons Larry Cain and wife Carolyn, Billy Cain and wife Donna, Stephen Cain and wife Juanita all of Barbourville, one loving sister, Vinnia Warren of Barbourville, her grandchildren, Donovan and wife Audrey, Josh Cain and wife Brooke, Danielle Bridgewater and husband Barrett, Zachary Cain and wife Brianna, Larry Hinkle and wife Kelly, James Art Hinkle and wife Christy, Maggie Hinkle Smith, John Hinkle, Stephanie Napier and husband David, Tim Cain and wife Rebekah, Travis Cain and wife Renee. Dorothy was blessed with twenty-three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be conducted at Faith Tabernacle in Barbourville, Kentucky on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Bill Engle officiating. Pallbearers will be Josh Cain, Larry Hinkle, Zachary Cain, Art Hinkle, John Hinkle, Peyton Hinkle, Timothy Cain, Cain Smith, Hunter Hinkle, Camden Hinkle and Alex Hinkle. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to, Dr. Thomas Ashburn, Dr. Rodney Smith and a special caregiver, Maureen “Mo” Carlson.

Face coverings will be required as well as social distancing guidelines of six feet apart will need to be followed during all our services. This is for the safety of our families, visitors’ and staff.
