Mrs. Doris Bernice Gambrel Brown age 75 of London, KY departed this life on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in the Barbourville ARH. She was the daughter of Mathias & Juanita (Mills) Carnes born to them in Knox Co., KY on October 20, 1940. She united in marriage with Obie Gambrel and to this union six children were born. He preceded her in death in 1999. Later in life she united in marriage with Elmer Brown who also precedes her in death. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Salem Missionary Baptist Church and had worked at many different jobs. She was a salesperson at the Flea World Flea Market for the past twenty five years.
In addition to her two husbands, she is also preceded in death by two sons, Terry Wayne Gambrel and Kenneth Gambrel and one daughter, Debra Sue Gambrel and one brother, Eugene Carnes.
Left behind to mourn her passing, one son James Gambrel and wife Joyce of Woolum, two daughters, Patricia Ann Gambrel-Martin of Corbin and Carolyn Gambrel of London, three brothers, Lonnie Carnes and wife Margaret of Greenfield, Indiana, Billy Ray Carnes and wife Mevelene of Arjay and Glen Carnes of Barbourville, four sisters, Beatrice Leath of Artemus, Evelyn Mills and Judy Messer and husband Edward all of Barbourville and Betty Shelton and husband Jack of London, KY, eleven grandchildren, Jason Spradlin, Roxanne Witt, Terry Witt, Jr., Tony Brock, Lucy Brock, James Gambrel, Lisa Gambrel, Ryan Warren, Benjamin Taft, Preston Jones and Kim Gambrel and twelve great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Gambrel Brown will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Mills and Rev. A.Y. Mills officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Burial will follow in the Carnes-Messer Cemetery at Walker, KY. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
