Delsie Jane Merida Baker of Barbourville, age 91, departed this life April 29, 2019 in the Bluegrass Hospice Care Center at University of Kentucky Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. On April 12, 1954 she was united in marriage to Chester Baker, who preceded her in death exactly twenty- seven years prior, on April 29, 1992. Delsie was a life-long member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church and served as the Postal Clerk for the Baughman, Kentucky post office until it’s closure. In 2009 she received the honorable status of Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen Powell Merida and Dallas Merida; two brothers, Emmanuel Ray and Eugene, one sister, Geneva Inez Merida Smith, and one granddaughter, Laura Kay Snyder.
Survivors include her two children, Angia Kay Baker Snyder of Tampa, Florida and Randall Ray Baker and wife Joy of Turkey Creek; one granddaughter, Jennifer Noelle Snyder Huff and husband John Huff and three great grandchildren, Arianna Ray, Elijah Dean and Kenzie Grace Huff all of Hagerstown, Indiana; one brother William Merida of Turkey Creek; one sister, Drucilla Merida Clark of Land O’ Lakes, Florida; three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of dear family and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held on Thursday, May 2 nd at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Jennifer Huff, Reverend John Huff and Reverend Tim Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Carnes Cemetery, Turkey Creek. Pallbearers will be, Silas Clark, Simon Clark, David Hill, Alvin Miller, Carl Venable and Richard Warren. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome; Memorial contributions may be made to The Turkey Creek Baptist Church for the Awana Children's program.
