Mr. Colonel L. Townsley age 83 of Girdler, KY departed this life on Thursday, August 06, 2009 in the Knox Co. Hospital. He was the husband of Opal Mae (Smith) Townsley, and the son of the late John Anderson Townsley & Julia Bell Townsley of Knox County born to them on June 2nd, 1926.
Mr. Townsley was a retired engineer from the Kentucky Department of Transportation, who enjoyed hunting, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Anderson Townsley & Julia Bell Townsley, one brother Kelly R. Townsley, and three infant brothers, one sister Marietta Mae Broughton, and one Grandchild Gary Anderson, Jr. Townsley.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife Opal Mae Townsley of Girdler, KY, three sons Larry & wife Laquda Gail of Girdler, KY, Gary Townsley of Girdler, KY , Johnny & Jeanette of Hinkle, KY, One brother Rev. Clarence Townsley & wife Lou Ellen of Girdler, KY, eight sisters Cleda Stoller of St. Louis, Michigan, Agnes Stacy of Girder, KY, Vivian Ledford of Cannon, KY, Ida Gambrel & husband John of Allen park, Michigan, Eva Hulen & husband Walter of Cabot, Ark, Marie Gensler & husband Richard of Dearborn heights, Michigan, Fern Ledford & husband Jack of Girdler, KY, and Jean Warreng & husband Rees of Scranden, Penn, three sister in-laws Cora Phipps, Ruth Beddows, Marcella Hammons, 7 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Mr. Townsley also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Townsley will be conducted at the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday – August 9th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dewayne Smith & Rev. Owen Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be family & friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. West, Dr. Hays, and the staff of the Knox County Hospital. Burial will follow in the Barbourville cemetery. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
