Mr. Clarence Abner age 89 of Barbourville, departed this life on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in the Barbourville Hospital. He was the son of James & Gracie (Bruner) Abner born to them on September 30, 1928 in Knox Co. On December 3, 1955, he united in marriage with Priscilla Baker and to this union two daughters were born. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict and was also a fifty year member of the Mt. Lodge #187. He had worked in the Fisher Body Plant in Norwood, Ohio and had been co-owner of H&A Pure Oil before going to work on pipelines at Delta Gas where he retired. He was a member of the Roadside Baptist Church and enjoyed talking with all his family & friends, woodworking and especially loved eating doughnuts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Gracie Abner, four brothers, Mitchell, Bob, Bo and James, Jr. and one sister, Ruby Abner.
Left behind to mourn his passing, his loving wife of sixty-two years, Priscilla Abner of Barbourville, his two daughters, Sheila Ann Franklin and husband Donnie of Bimble and Sherry Lynn Moore and husband Curtis of Barbourville, one brother, Troy Abner of Artemus and two sisters, Cindy Shelton and Amanda Miller, four grandchildren, Tanner Moore, Jared Franklin, Scott Moore and wife Rhonda and Melissa Huff, two great grandchildren, Kaylee Boyd and A.J. Moore. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Clarence Abner will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Josh Smith and Steve Farmer officiating. Pallbearers will be Tanner Moore, Jared Franklin, Scotty Moore, Eddie Abner, Mike Abner, Willie Ray Shelton, Steve Abner and Vernon Farmer. Honorary pallbearers will be, all Delta Natural Gas employees, Christian Life Fellowship Food Bank, Matt Garrison and all nieces and nephews. He will be laid to rest in the Stewart Abner Cemetery at Artemus. Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Friends will also be received prior to the service on Friday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
