Mr. Burchell Hughes, Jr. known as "Pedro" from California Hollow, departed this life on Monday, November 28, 2011. He was the widower of Hazel Smallwood Hughes and was the son of Burchell Hughes, Sr. and Alice (Tuttle) Hughes. He was born on June 29, 1954 in Knox Co., KY. Pedro was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working and riding his four wheeler. He is preceded in death by his mother Alice Hughes and his wife Hazel Hughes, two brothers, Vernon Hughes and Jessie Hughes, his sisters, Wanda Nevel and an infant baby sister Pauline Hughes.
Left behind to mourn his passing, his father & step mother, Burchell Hughes, Sr. and wife Marilyn of Barbourville, one son, Burley Hughes, Jr. of Barbourville, two daughters, Cynthia Swafford and husband Homer of Cannon and Jennifer Hughes and fiance' Les Erb of Flat Lick, five brothers, Paul Hughes and wife Teresa of Covington, James Thomas Hughes and wife Liz also of Covington, Brian Howard Hughes, Jason Hughes and Codie Hughes all of Barbourville, four sisters, Lucy Helton and husband M.C. of Barbourville, Rita Dhonau and husband David of Barbourville, Holly Brown and husband Dustin of Dewitt, and Autumn Hughes of Barbourville. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Burchell Hughes, Jr. will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Eversole officiating. Burial will be in the Tanyard Cemetery at Smokey. Pallbearers will be, Brian Hughes, Les Erb, Jason Hughes, John Paul Hughes, Devin Hughes, Prince Amos Owens, Michael Gray Eric Gray, M.C. Helton, Homer Swafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Buchanan. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
