Mr. Billy J. Shelton, born February 4, 1940 in Knox County, Kentucky passed away on June 29, 2018 in the VA Hospice Center in Lexington, Kentucky.  He was the son of Elmer Shelton and Sallie Cobb Shelton

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Sallie Shelton, a infant brother Franklin D. Shelton, his maternal grandparents Matt and Lucinda Lawson Cobb, his paternal grandparents George and Dora Partin Shelton, three aunts Mary Nan Senters, Betty Mays and Vertie Rutherford, three uncles Bill Mart Cobb, Leslie Shelton, and J.T. Shelton and a first cousin Esteline Adams.

He is survived by five first cousins Andrew Senters, Jr. of Bryants Store, Darlene Benttin and husband Jerry of Bryants Store, Kathleen Shelton of Bryants Store, Eugene Mays and wife Aileen of Elyria, Ohio, Maureen McRay and husband Norman of Harrodsburg, Kentucky.  He is also survived by two special friends J.B. Gibson and Bill Oxendine who were like brothers to Billy, a special third cousin Wilma McCreary who spent a lot of time with Billy in the last weeks of his life, his postmaster Christa Jones who he cared for like a little sister and last but not least his beloved dog Bowser.  He also leaves behind countless other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

In 2007 he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior.  He was a Army Veteran, and a Masonic member.  Billy helped start the Little Poplar Creek Volunteer Fire Department in 1986 and was a proud member as well as the Assistant Fire Chief for thirty-two years.

Pallbearers will be all members of the Little Poplar Creek Volunteer Fire Department.  Honorary pallbearers will be Terry McCreary, Jim Jones, Jerry Benttin, Harold McCreary, Rondle Burnett, Ellis Gregory, Jr., all employee of the Knox County PVA Office, and all Barbourville City and Knox County volunteer firemen.

Funeral Services for Mr. Billy J. Shelton will be conducted in the Cobb-Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Ronnie Rose and special friend and speaker Bill Oxendine officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ketchen Cemetery at Bryants Store.  Masonic rites will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday evening. Cobb-Hampton Funeral home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
