Beve Sowders

Mr. Beve Sowders age 93 of Bimble, KY departed this life on Friday, July 10, 2009 in the Knox Co. Hospital. He was the husband of Marie (Mooneyham)(Nunnery) Sowders and the son of Ancil & Syntha (West) Sowders born to them on September 18, 1915 in Knox County.
Mr. Sowders was a member of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church, where he was a board member. He also served on the Knox County Hospital Board for over 20 years and had also served on the City Council for 2 or 3 terms. He has also previously worked in the mines, drove a coal truck, and worked for Farmers Supply, and was owner & operator of Sowders Pure Oil.
Mr. Sowders was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and other medals. Mr. Sowders enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and just everyday work.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ancil & Syntha Sowders, his first wife Betty (Shoaf) Sowders, three brothers William “Bill” Sowders, Floyd Sowders and Earl Sowders, two sisters Manerva McVay and Venna Tuggle.
Left to mourn his passing, his wife Marie Sowders of Bimble, KY, two sons Herb Sowders & wife Linda of Barbourville, KY, Ancil Sowders & wife Charlynn of Barbourville, KY, one daughter Beverly Patterson & husband Alva of Bimble, KY, four step-children Rita Wilson, Shelia Lee, Larry Jackson, and Jamie Jackson, seven grandchildren Betty Broughton, Krista Sowders, Syntha Sowders, Travis Sowders, Kimberly Skidmore, Sara Bright, and Dustin Patterson, plus seven step-granchildren and seven great grandchildren Ethan Broughton, Lyllin Partin, Audra Partin, Lauran Skidmore, Emma Skidmore, Morgan Bright, and Jenna Patterson, and nine step great grandchildren. Mr. Sowders also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Sowders will be conducted at the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church on Sunday, July 12th at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Tip Smith, Rev. Ted Satterfield, Rev. Ed Arthur Rice, Bro. Curt Corey, and Bro. Mike Corey officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons,
Brandon Jackson, Travis Sowders, Terry Lee, Jason Lee, Brad Jackson, Dustin Patterson, and Kelly Tomblin. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. Interment will be in the Barbourville Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
