Bessie Collett departed this life on Thursday, December 24, 2015 being 88 years, 3 months and 16 days of age. She was born on September 8, 1927 in Clay County to the late Preston Collett and the late Mallie Sizemore Collett. She is also preceded in death by her husband Roy Collett; two sons: Steve Collett and Grant Collett and several brothers. She believed in the Pentecostal faith. Bessie enjoyed spending her time gardening, canning and cooking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family. Often she could be found, sitting on her porch with her fan.
She leaves behind her son Laymon Collett and wife Geneva; four daughters: Thelma Helton and husband Joe, Martha Blankenship and husband Jim Tom, Mary Saylor and husband Leonard, Elizabeth Messer and husband Vantory; one half-brother: Needus Grubb; thirty grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 1:00PM at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Collett and Rev. Demus Couch officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Collett Cemetery with Vantory Messer, Jr., Elijah Preston Messer, Sr., Leonard Saylor, Jr., Frank Sizemore, James Sizemore, Eugene Collett, Terry Blankenship, Steven Blankenship, Roy Lee Collett, Christopher Saylor and Elijah Preston Messer, Jr. serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6:00PM on Sunday, December 27, 2015 and all day on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Salem Baptist Church.
