Mrs. Bessie Carnes age 83, of Roaring Fork in the Walker Community departed this life on Friday February 29, 2008 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl Schultz Miller, born to them on August 11, 1924 in Bell County, Ky. Mrs. Carnes was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, she was a homemaker, loved to sew, attended church, talk with her friends and cook for her family especially on Sundays. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Sawyer Carnes whom she married on August 17, 1948. She was also preceded in death by one daughter Darlene Honeycutt, six Step Children Vercie Gilreath, Jeff Carnes, Clayael Carnes, Carl Carnes, Realty Carnes and Vernon Carnes, two brothers Ernest Miller, Owen Miller and one grandchild.
Survivors include three sons Jimmy Carnes of Gray, Ky., Ellis Carnes and wife Kay of Barbourville, Rev. Charles Carnes and wife Diann of Flat Lick, Ky., seven daughters Gladys Fee and husband Yancy of Walker, Ky., Judy Marion and husband Frank of Bimble, Ky., Arlene Asher and husband Roscoe of Arjay, Ky., Phyllis Johnson and husband Jerry of Barbourville, Ky., Susie Brown and husband Ernest of Scalf, Ky., Peggy Brown and husband Johnny of Flat Lick, Ky., Lena Bargo and husband Donnie of Barbourville, Ky., One Step Son Lester Carnes and wife Emma of Erlanger, Ky., four step daughters Pearlie Williams of Harrogate, Tn., Ethel Hudson and husband Charles of Corinth Mississippi, Lucille Maupin and husband Jake of Mt. Vernon and Edith Brown of Flat Lick, Ky., three brothers Earl Miller and wife Margaret of Scalf, Ky., Eugene Miller of Tennessee, Arnold Miller and wife Mary Lou of Manchester, Ky., two sisters Ruby Smith of Barbourville, Ky. and Madeline Frye of Arjay, Ky., thirty eight Grandchildren, thirty eight step Grandchildren, Thirty Nine Great Grandchildren, Sixty step Great Grandchildren, Thirty eight Step Great Great Grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Carnes will be conducted on Tuesday March 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary King, Rev. Charles Carnes, Rev. Dale Johnson and Rev. Gary Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the Carnes Cemetery at Roaring Fork with Grandkids and friends serving ad pallbearers, Tri County Hospice, Heritage Nursing Home, Lend-A-Hand Centers and the nurses station on the third floor North serving as Honorary Pallbearers. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements. Read Sunday: The family will receive friends today from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 1:00 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home. Read Monday: The family will receive friends today from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral Hour of 1:00 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Home.
