Mr. Arnold Lee Hammons, age 92, of Barbourville, KY, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013, in the Barbourville Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was the widower of Ilene Meadows Hammons, and the son of the late Charlie Hammons and Sara Smith Hammons, born to them on February 7, 1921, in Knox County, KY.
Mr. Hammons was also preceded in death by one brother, Oscar Hammons, and three sisters, Edna Hammons, Girtie Cowan, and Bessie Smith. He was a member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United Army having served during World War II and the European Campaign.
Survivors of Mr. Hammons include one daughter, Linda Hammons, Barbourville, KY, and three sons, Glen Hammons, Georgetown, KY, Jerry Hammons, Winston Salem, NC, and Tim Hammons, Barbourville, KY, four grandchildren, Charles, Dana, Katie, and Amanda, and three great grandchildren, Adam Treadway, Zonder Hammons, and Lauren Gray, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. Arnold Lee Hammons will be conducted in the chapel of the Hampton Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Josh Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Hampton Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
