Ms. Alene Smith age 68 of Barbourville, KY departed this life on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was the daughter of Calvin Smith and Ethel (Mills) Smith Lewis. She was born in Madison Co. KY on September 21, 1943 and was a homemaker. She believed in the Baptist faith and enjoyed cooking, reading, music, gardening and being with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Calvin and Ethel Smith, four brothers, Woodson Mills, Oakley Smith, Albert Smith, Gilbert Smith, two sisters, Elsie Saylor and Thelma Kelly and a granddaughter Destinee Mitchell.
She is survived by one son, Calvin Smith and wife Charlene of Barbourville and five daughters, Leona Lee , Velvet Mitchell and husband Jerry, April Durham and husband James and Jamie Mills and husband Martin allof Barbourville and Traci Smith of Louisville, a brother T.J. Smith of Barbourville, two sisters, Tressie Jane Smith of Barbourville and Lillie McCay of Sharonville, Ohio, thirteen grandchildren, Eric Smith, James Smith, Brandon Smith, McKenzie Napier, Michael Napier, Nathan Mills, Tippori Mills, Damien Hammons, Jayden Robinson, Caleb Robinson, Chandler Garland, Jaydra Durham and Averi Durham, four great grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Zoey Smith, E.J. Smith and Devon Smith. Ms. Smith also leaves behind a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Ms. Alene Smith will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. E.C. Fields officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Smith, James Smith, Nathan Mills, Joshua Mills, Ronnie Hazelwood, Michael Napier, Terry McNamara and Marty Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Knox Co. Home Health staff, St. Joseph Hospital Main staff, Dr. Abedi and nurse Christine, Dr. Shaffer and three special nurses Susie Barnett, Susan Keck and Judy Mills. Ms. Smith will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Hampton Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
